Today, Microsoft announced the removal of the upgrade block for Windows 11 24H2, which was previously in effect due to issues linked to a third-party driver. While this news may seem positive, the company also delivered some disappointing updates regarding the performance of IIS (Internet Information Services) websites following the recent October 2025 Patch Tuesday update.
Both Windows 11 24H2 and the upcoming version 25H2 have been reported to disrupt numerous IIS-hosted websites. These problems have arisen from conflicts between the latest Windows updates and the HTTP stack driver (http.sys).Users are currently facing errors such as “ERR_CONNECTION_RESET, ”rendering their IIS websites inaccessible.
In a statement from Microsoft, the company outlined,
“Following installation of updates released on or after September 29 (KB5066835 / KB5065789), server-side applications relying on HTTP.sys may experience issues with incoming connections. Consequently, IIS websites might fail to load, showing error messages like ‘Connection reset – error (ERR_CONNECTION_RESET)’ or similar. This includes sites hosted on http://localhost/ and various other IIS connections.”
Microsoft has indicated that the issue may stem from a combination of factors, including the device’s internet connectivity and the timing of the recent updates and restarts. Due to this variability, the problems may not be prevalent in every user environment.
The tech giant is actively working to develop a fix for these issues. In the meantime, Microsoft has recommended that IT administrators implement a known issue rollback as a temporary solution. The company provided guidance as follows:
IT admins can resolve this issue…by installing and configuring the Group Policy as outlined below. The specific Group Policy is located within Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > [Group Policy name].
Group Policy downloads with Group Policy name:
- Download for Windows 11, version 24H2, Windows 11 25H2, and Windows Server, version 2025 – Windows 11 24H2, Windows 11 25H2, and Windows Server 2025 KB5066835 251015_22001 Known Issue Rollback.msi
