Microsoft Promotes Windows 11 AI as Essential as Windows 10 Support Ends

Support for Windows 10 is scheduled to end on October 14, 2025. Users have the option to extend this support for an additional year by paying a fee of $30. However, for those who do not opt for this extension, Microsoft plans to automatically upgrade compatible PCs to Windows 11. Additionally, if your device is unsupported, you will miss out on crucial security updates unless you pay for an upgrade. Microsoft is encouraging users to invest in new AI-driven computers at this stage.

Recently, information surfaced from Windows Latest regarding two promotional campaigns launched by Microsoft in early June 2025. The first initiative highlights that Copilot+ PCs and Windows 11 are tailored for eLearning, while the second aligns with the “Back to School”marketing theme, emphasizing productivity features designed specifically for students and professionals.

Microsoft asserts that PCs running Windows 11, especially the Copilot+ models, are equipped with innovative AI tools aimed at enhancing educational experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The campaign categorizes features like Recall and Click to Do as integral to boosting productivity.

The Recall feature is particularly noteworthy; it allows users to revisit past actions by recording the screen at regular intervals. This function tracks conversations, identifies shared files, and more. For instance, if you cannot recall a file’s location or its name, typing a vague description into Recall’s search functionality will help pinpoint it swiftly.

Despite initial concerns from privacy advocates deeming Recall a “privacy nightmare, ”Microsoft has refined the feature, making it opt-in and enhancing privacy settings. As a result, Recall AI is now part of the stable Windows 11 builds for AI-ready systems, with an option to disable it at any time.

Another productivity-increasing tool introduced is called Click to Do. This feature facilitates a range of actions, such as blurring images, removing unwanted objects, and quickly sourcing information via Bing. Furthermore, the Cocreator tool in Paint enables users to generate artistic creations based on text prompts.

As part of its strategy, Microsoft has begun displaying full-screen advertisements for Copilot+ PCs on devices that do not support Windows 11. During my observations, I encountered such pop-ups three times over two months on a virtual machine still operating Windows 10. These banners encourage users to consider upgrading for improved capabilities and overall productivity.

Additionally, Microsoft offers a new migration tool designed to assist users in transitioning their data from Windows 10 to a new machine.

The campaign boldly claims, “Want the ultimate Windows 11 experience? Level up to the new Copilot+ PCs – the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever.” However, this raises questions around the actual productivity enhancements. Many users, including myself, find that Windows 10 remains a robust operating system, effectively managing applications and functioning well on older hardware, while Windows 11 has performance challenges on legacy CPUs.

As the end of support for Windows 10 draws near, the decision looms: should you invest in extended support for Windows 10, or upgrade to the latest Copilot+ PC for the promised productivity enhancements? Time is running short; you have about 100 days to make this critical decision.
