Microsoft suggests new features will come to Windows 10 version 22H2

Last month, we learned that Windows 10 version 22H2 is indeed on the way. Shortly after that, the update appeared on the Release Preview channel, and you can also follow this guide to install it. It’s not clear if Windows 10 version 22H2 brings any new features because right now it’s just an enable pack that increments the build number. So it doesn’t make much sense to install it.

However, Microsoft has recently confirmed two things. In a recently updated blog post ( discovered by Thurrott.com ), the company noted that the upcoming version of Windows 10 has a “limited” feature set, and Microsoft will share more details on this later this year. So while we know new features will eventually arrive, we don’t know exactly what they will be.

Meanwhile, another blog post , intended to help commercial customers and businesses deploy Windows 10, explicitly notes that there are no changes to the Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP) for version 22H2. All requirements are exactly the same as for Windows 10 version 2004. However, this is not surprising since the WHCP recommendations have remained the same for the last few versions of Windows 10. You can find more details below:

  • WHCP requirements – No change. The Windows 10 version 2004 requirements remain applicable to Windows 10 version 22H2.
  • Windows Hardware Lab Bundle – no change. Since the WHCP requirements will continue in Windows 10 version 22H2, the Windows Hardware Lab Kit (Windows HLK) will also remain the same. There will be no new release of Windows HLK for Windows 10 version 22H2, and partners can continue to use Windows 10 version 2004 HLK for certification.
  • Errors – No change. All fixes for Windows 10 version 2004 will remain valid for Windows 10 version 22H2.
  • Windows HLK playlist – no change. Windows HLK playlist version 2004 can be used for Windows 10 version 22H2.
  • Driver’s signature – No change. Drivers that meet all applicable Windows 10 version 2004 requirements will be digitally signed with the same signature attributes.
  • Submission – No change. Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2 and 21H1 can be used to send WHCP.
  • WHCP Qualification – Windows 10 Version 2004
  • Required OS version – Windows 10 version 22H2
  • HLK version – 2004 HLK version.

Overall, Windows 10 version 22H2 is available to install right now, but it’s unclear what features it will eventually cover. Microsoft will share more details on this in the coming months. It’s also important to note that Windows 10 is supported until 2025, but it looks like developer efforts will be more focused on Windows 11.
