In a significant development for users of both Windows and Apple’s iOS, Microsoft has announced an expansion of its Windows Phone Link capabilities. Initially introduced in 2023, this feature is now set to include seamless file sharing between iPhones and Windows 10 or 11 PCs. This new enhancement aims to improve productivity and streamline the user experience for those engaged in cross-platform operations.

For users eager to utilize this new functionality, several specific requirements must be met:
Today we are beginning to gradually roll out the ability to seamlessly share files between your iPhone® and Windows 11 or Windows 10 PC when they are connected via Phone Link and the Link to Windows app.
- An iPhone® running iOS 16 or higher.
- The Link to Windows app installed on your iPhone (version 1.24112.73 or higher).
- Phone Link version 1.24112.89.0 or newer.
- Membership in the Windows Insider Program.
For those who are new to the Phone Link application, file sharing options will appear when setting up the app for the first time. Existing users can easily activate file sharing by visiting aka.ms/addAccount from their PC.
How to Share Files Between Devices
Microsoft has provided a straightforward guide for users looking to share files between their iPhone and PC. Here’s how it works:
To share a file from your iPhone® to your PC:
- Locate the file(s) you wish to share on your iPhone®.
- Select the share icon to initiate the sharing process.
- Choose “Link to Windows” .
- Select the target device for sharing your file(s).
To share a file from your PC to your iPhone®:
- Choose the file(s) you intend to share on your PC (note that only local files are supported).
- Right-click on the selected file and choose the “Share” option.
- Click on “My Phone” to complete the sharing process.
Should you not see “My Phone” , please select Phone Link instead.
