Microsoft OneDrive Data Migration to Google Drive for 100 Users Soon Available for Admins
Administrators of Google Workspace will soon gain the capability to transfer Microsoft OneDrive data to Google Drive for up to 100 users simultaneously. This enhancement builds on Google’s existing functionality that facilitates migrations from Google Drive to OneDrive, thereby enabling larger-scale data transfers.
This announcement was made recently during Google’s updates to Workspace, accompanied by the launch of a new open beta version for admins to explore and share their insights. Notably, no test application is required to access this beta, which is open to:
- Business Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Enterprise Standard and Plus
- Education Fundamentals, Standard, Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade
- Essentials Starter and Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus
- Nonprofits
According to the company:
As part of our data migration solutions, we are introducing a new file migration service that allows Admins to transfer OneDrive files to Google Drive for up to 100 users at once. This feature is directly accessible in the Admin console, enabling super admins to migrate all files and folders along with their respective access permissions for shared members.
Google has detailed the migration process, which is designed to be user-friendly and includes mapping users from the source OneDrive account to the destination Google Drive account. The steps include:
To begin a migration, follow these straightforward steps:
- First, establish a connection to the Microsoft OneDrive account from which you wish to transfer files.
- Next, create an identity map that links users from the source account to those on the target account.
As illustrated in the accompanying images, the console will display migration progress and additional information, including the option for delta migrations of any files that have been added or modified since the last migration session.
The open beta for this functionality has been available in the Admin console since October 11th, with Google aiming to complete the full rollout by early November.
