Microsoft Acknowledges Issues with Classic Outlook Following Recent Updates

Microsoft has officially identified a troubling issue concerning Classic Outlook, emerging after users updated to the latest builds. Reports indicate difficulties when clicking and scrolling through emails in the message list. Observations suggest that this issue began with Current Channel Outlook Version 2411, Build 16.0.18227.20082.

Understanding the Message List Functionality

In Classic Outlook, the message list is designed to facilitate the viewing of emails by featuring the sender’s name, the subject, and a snippet of the message’s first line. However, this essential functionality is currently hindered by reported bugs.

Details of the Reported Issue

Microsoft has detailed the various scenarios where users are facing these disruptions:

ISSUE

Users of recent Outlook builds have noted that the message list unexpectedly jumps when attempting to select or scroll through emails. Some of the specific scenarios encountered are:

  • Upon selecting an unread email, the Inbox scrolls down automatically to older emails, despite the original email remaining highlighted.

  • The cursor unexpectedly shifts after performing actions like deleting an email or marking it as Read/Unread in single-line view.

  • Selecting the delete option on an email message causes the list to randomly scroll to a different email further down.

  • When an email at the top of the Inbox is clicked, the list jumps down to older messages.

These issues have been primarily associated with Current Channel Version 2411, beginning in late December 2024.

Current investigation and Temporary Workarounds

In response to the growing concern, Microsoft has stated they are actively investigating the matter. Meanwhile, they have put forth a temporary workaround to help mitigate the problem:

A suggested workaround involves switching to a different folder within the message list and then returning to the original folder. This should help alleviate the problem temporarily.
