Microsoft Launches OpenAI’s Sora Video Generation API for Azure AI Foundry Next Week

Microsoft Enhances Azure AI Foundry with Video Generation Capabilities

Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry is a powerful platform for developers, offering access to an expansive library of over 1, 900 artificial intelligence models tailored to various applications across different industries. Nevertheless, despite its extensive resources, the platform has not yet included text-to-video generation models. In contrast, competitors like AWS and Google Cloud have already introduced such capabilities through their respective Nova Reels and Veo APIs.

The Role of OpenAI in Microsoft’s AI Strategy

To push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, Microsoft collaborates closely with OpenAI for cutting-edge solutions. OpenAI has developed the Sora video generation model, which is sophisticated but has not been made publicly available as an API. Currently, users of the ChatGPT Premium plan can create videos using Sora by providing text prompts. However, extensive GPU resources are necessary for broader access, which has delayed its full rollout since its debut in December 2024.

Upcoming Features in Azure AI Foundry

During the Build 2025 conference, Microsoft revealed that Sora will become available in Azure AI Foundry within the following week. This launch includes the introduction of a new segment called ‘Video Playground’ within the platform, providing developers the tools to experiment with video model generation, including Sora. This feature will allow them to customize critical aspects of their videos, such as aspect ratio, resolution, and duration. Additionally, Sora will be obtainable through the Azure OpenAI Service, simplifying the integration process into various applications.

Real-World Applications of Sora

Moreover, Microsoft has emphasized that T&Pm, a subsidiary of WPP, is already harnessing the power of Sora via the Azure OpenAI Service. This collaboration aims to enhance workflow efficiency, enabling T&Pm to visualize initial concepts seamlessly and transform grand ideas into production-ready content.
