Microsoft is adding a Copilot plugin to the Photos app to help create slideshows and more

It seems that Microsoft has recently introduced a new Copilot plugin to its Photos app, although its capabilities are currently quite limited. According to @PhantomOfEarth, a Windows enthusiast who shared about the feature on their X (formerly Twitter) account this week, the Copilot plugin is now available.

The Photos app version 2024.11030.22001.0 includes the latest AI feature. If you have this version, simply navigate to the Plugins section and you will find a toggle to activate the Copilot feature.

Despite its limitations, the initial release of this plugin only allows users to generate and view photo slideshows within the app, as well as request Copilot to designate one of their photos as their desktop background. It remains unclear how many Windows users will be able to utilize this updated version of the Photos app.

“PhantomOcean3″mentions another change in this version of Photos in a subsequent post on X. This change can be seen in an updated section within the settings, allowing users to add their Microsoft account in order to access images stored in their OneDrive cloud account.

In November 2023, Microsoft introduced additional AI-based functions for the Photos app exclusively for members of the Windows Insider program. Among these features was the ability to easily remove and replace background images in photos. The app also received enhancements to its Filmstrip feature, along with the addition of a Timeline Scrollbar that is based on the time range of your images.
