Microsoft Intune Enables Organizations to Turn Off Apple Intelligence Features

Earlier this year, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, a groundbreaking suite of Generative AI features that will be integrated into Apple devices later this year. This innovative technology is driven by Apple’s generative models, which have been specifically optimized for enhancing user experiences. These features include writing and refining text, managing and summarizing notifications, and much more.

Just yesterday, Microsoft revealed that its Intune mobile device management (MDM) and mobile app management (MAM) capabilities now enable IT administrators to manage Apple Intelligence features on Apple devices. The functionalities of Apple Intelligence are accessible in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, and Intune will facilitate the regulation of these features within organizations.

The following Apple Intelligence features can now be controlled through Intune:

  • Genmoji – If set to ‘false’, prohibits the creation of new Genmoji.
  • Image Playground – If set to ‘false’, prohibits the generation of images.
  • Image Wand – If set to ‘false’, prohibits the use of the Image Wand feature.
  • Personalized Handwriting Results – If set to ‘false’, prevents the system from generating text in the user’s handwriting style.
  • Writing Tools – If set to ‘false’, disables the writing tools provided by Apple Intelligence.
  • Intelligence (Skip Key) – The key function that allows users to skip the Intelligence pane in the Setup Assistant.
  • Math Notes Mode – If present, configures the Math Notes mode in the calculator; if absent, Math Notes mode is enabled.
  • System Behavior > Math Notes – Controls whether Math Notes can be utilized in other apps such as Notes.

Last month, Microsoft Intune announced day-zero support for Apple’s latest operating systems, including iOS/iPadOS 18.0 and macOS 15.0 Sequoia. This recent Intune update empowers IT admins to manage new features, including iPhone Mirroring, across their organizations. It is essential to highlight that MDM controls are not applicable to personal or bring-your-own (BYO) iOS/iPadOS devices.

With these new controls in Microsoft Intune, IT administrators can enhance the management and security of Apple devices in their organizations, striking a balance between productivity and data security.
