Exciting New Features Coming to Microsoft Clipchamp
Microsoft has announced a series of updates for Clipchamp, its user-friendly video editing tool, in a recent post on the Microsoft 365 Insider Blog. These enhancements are set to roll out this month for personal account users, while those with work accounts can expect to see these updates in the following month.
Notable Interface Enhancements
One of the first changes you’ll notice after the update is the option to toggle between light and dark mode. Clipchamp will follow your system’s preferences but can be manually overridden in the General settings within the app.

Redesigned Editing Interface
The editing interface, a key aspect of Clipchamp, is undergoing a redesign intended to enhance usability, especially for beginners. The adjustments include a streamlined navigation system, allowing for an overall more intuitive experience.
Key improvements include:
- Collapsible sidebar and timeline
- More precise zoom controls on the timeline
- Option for full-screen playback
- Enhanced undo and redo functionality
- Flexible aspect ratio adjustments
- Introduction of AI-generated captions

Improved Timeline Navigation
Additionally, the updated version of Clipchamp includes timestamp features on the timeline. This enhancement allows users to see their precise position within the video as they navigate, which is a welcome addition for detailed editing tasks.

Asset Grouping for Streamlined Editing
To facilitate project management, Microsoft has enhanced the grouping functionality. After selecting multiple elements, such as music tracks or text layers, users can now right-click and choose Group to combine these elements into a solitary track item.

Grouped assets will appear on the timeline alongside a thumbnail, providing details on the number of elements included in the group, as well as categorized counts by type.
Clipchamp’s Evolution Post-Acquisition
Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Clipchamp in 2021, the platform has significantly evolved, introducing features such as the AI suggestion button that identifies silent portions of videos for potential deletion, along with an option to incorporate audio recordings directly into videos.
These forthcoming updates highlight Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing Clipchamp, making it a versatile tool for both novice and experienced video editors. Be sure to keep an eye out for these exciting features!
