Introduction of Storyline in Microsoft Teams
In our coverage last year, we highlighted the upcoming feature known as Storyline, which Microsoft announced would be available for early preview in 2023. Initially launched within Viva Engage (previously Yammer), this innovative feature has now been seamlessly integrated into the core Microsoft Teams client, offering users expanded functionalities.
What is Storyline?
Storyline serves as a personal communication hub allowing employees to share updates, experiences, and insights that are not confined to specific teams or channels. This feature can be viewed as an internal blogging platform or a social media wall, conveniently accessible within the Teams app that many users rely on daily.
How Does Storyline Function?
The functionality of Storyline is straightforward and user-friendly. Unlike traditional group chats that notify entire teams, posts made via Storyline are personalized, linking them specifically to individual users. The structure resembles that of LinkedIn, yet the entire experience is curated within your organization’s digital environment. Users can access a dedicated page in their personal chat tab where all previous posts are organized, creating a centralized feed management system.
Engagement Features
A key aspect of Storyline is its social engagement capabilities. Users can follow colleagues and leaders, ensuring that their activity feeds are tailored to include updates from selected individuals. This means that users could receive updates about strategic company directions from a manager or insights from colleagues in different departments sharing valuable lessons learned.
Activation Through Admin Settings
It is important to note that the functionality of Storyline is contingent upon your organization’s settings. For users to access this feature, it must be enabled by your IT admin. Once activitated, an option to create a “New Storyline post”will appear in the Chat tab, just below the “New Message”button.
Next Steps
If the Storyline feature is not visible in your interface, it may be necessary to consult your IT department for assistance. Embracing this new tool could enhance internal communication and collaboration within your organization, fostering a more interactive workplace environment.
