Microsoft introduces Office 2024 for consumers priced from $149

Alongside the release of Windows 11 version 2024, known as the “2024 Update,”Microsoft has introduced Office 2024 for consumers. This latest non-subscription version of Microsoft’s productivity software is available for purchase at $149.99 for Office 2024 Home & Student or $249.99 for Office Home & Business through the Microsoft Store.

In contrast to Microsoft 365, which is a subscription-based service, Office 2024 allows users to make a one-time purchase, catering to those who prefer not to transition to a subscription model.

Office 2024 offers a variety of features and updates that mirror those available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. In a post on their official support site, Microsoft detailed several enhancements for users upgrading from older perpetual versions of Office.

Notable improvements include a new default theme that aligns with the visual aesthetics of Windows 11, support for OpenDocument Format 1.4, enhanced accessibility features and checkers, simplified image integration from mobile devices, dynamic charts, new Excel functions, improved document recovery in Word, fresh drawing tools in OneNote, closed-caption support in PowerPoint, improved search functionality in Outlook, performance optimizations, customizable left and right swipes on macOS, and much more.

It is important to note that Office 2024 is the first release to exclude Publisher, which was phased out earlier this year.

Office 2024 is compatible with Windows 10 and 11, as well as the three most recent versions of macOS: Sequoia, Sonoma, and Ventura. The software requires an active internet connection and a Microsoft Account. The distinction between the bundles lies in the higher-priced version, which includes Outlook and licenses for commercial use.

Both Office 2024 Home & Student and Office 2024 Home & Business come with a five-year support lifecycle. Microsoft has committed to providing updates, fixes, and security patches from October 1, 2024, until October 9, 2029.
