Microsoft Introduces Copilot Vision: A New Feature That Understands Your Online Activities

Introducing Copilot Vision: Microsoft’s AI-Powered Assistant

In a significant development during early October, Microsoft unveiled Copilot Vision, an innovative feature designed to leverage artificial intelligence in assisting users with various on-screen tasks. As of now, two months post-announcement, Microsoft has rolled out a preview of Copilot Vision to select users.

How Copilot Vision Works

When activated, Copilot Vision utilizes advanced AI capabilities to perceive and interpret the content displayed on your screen, along with its context. Users can pose questions related to the web page they are currently viewing, and the assistant responds with relevant information, enhancing your browsing experience.

Availability and Functionality

Currently, Copilot Vision is available in a limited preview for Copilot Pro subscribers in the United States, working exclusively within the Microsoft Edge browser and on select websites. Microsoft is focused on creating a “useful and safe experience”as it begins to broaden the list of compatible sites.

User Privacy and Data Security

Microsoft has emphasized that Copilot Vision is designed with user privacy in mind. It does not collect or store any user data, nor does it utilize information for training its models. Post-session, all data concerning user interactions will be purged. This aligns with the functionality of another recently introduced feature, Recall, which is also available in preview for Windows Insiders using Copilot+ PCs. Importantly, Copilot Vision is an opt-in service, meaning it will remain inactive until users choose to activate it.

Commitment to Ethical Practices

Furthermore, Microsoft has vowed to uphold principles of copyright protection, privacy, and user safety. Copilot Vision will not provide assistance on paywalled websites, nor will it perform any actions on behalf of the user. Its primary goal is to be an extra pair of eyes—an auxiliary assistant ready to enhance your understanding and engagement with online content.

Getting Started with Copilot Vision

To utilize Copilot Vision, interested users can access it through Copilot Labs, but please note that a Copilot Pro subscription is required for eligibility in the United States.
