Recent updates in the Windows 11 Release Preview build reveal exciting enhancements, predominantly focusing on improvements to the taskbar.
Exciting Taskbar Enhancements in Windows 11
Microsoft has introduced two new builds, 26100.7918 and 26200.7918, to the Release Preview Channel. These updates are designed to refine the overall user experience in Windows 11. A key highlight from Microsoft’s announcement indicates that this latest feature set predominantly targets the taskbar, alongside improvements to the core operating system functionalities.

The standout feature is the new built-in internet speed test, seamlessly integrated into the taskbar. This functionality allows users to test their internet connection speeds directly, eliminating the need for third-party applications or external websites. Accessible through the following methods:
- Right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar’s system tray
- Navigating through the quick settings for Wi-Fi or cellular connections

Once activated, the speed test launches in the default web browser, enabling quick assessments of Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular internet performance. While this may seem like a minor addition, it holds significant value for users needing to diagnose connectivity issues swiftly. Furthermore, Microsoft has introduced various smaller, yet impactful, improvements to taskbar functionality.
A notable adjustment is in how the taskbar handles uncombined button instances: apps with multiple open windows will no longer overflow all instances simultaneously. Instead, only those exceeding available taskbar space will be shifted to the overflow area, enhancing its usability and accuracy. The changelog for update KB5077241 also mentions additional improvements, including:
- Native Sysmon support
- Camera pan and tilt controls
- Refinements to the Start menu layout
- Numerous fixes in File Explorer and core system components
This latest feature rollout reflects Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to enhance the user experience within Windows 11, making it more functional and streamlined.
