Microsoft integrates Xbox Game Pass with Xbox mobile app

Microsoft has officially unveiled the Xbox September Update, introducing a range of improvements for PC gaming, Xbox apps, consoles, and more. A significant enhancement is the merging of the Xbox Game Pass mobile app into the current Xbox mobile app, transforming the mobile gaming experience. With this updated Xbox app, users will be able to play and install games on their consoles, access game captures, communicate with fellow gamers through chat, receive notifications for friend requests, rewards, and efficiently manage their Game Pass membership.

The revamped Xbox mobile app will initially be available to Xbox beta members, following which it will be rolled out to all users. As a result of this integration, Microsoft will cease updates for the Xbox Game Pass app, which will also be unavailable for download starting in November.

The newly integrated Game Pass feature within the Xbox mobile app allows users to discover Game Pass offerings and manage their subscriptions seamlessly. Users can browse the entire Game Pass catalog, receive alerts for new games added to the service, and view and claim exclusive Perks for Ultimate subscribers. Additionally, Game Pass Ultimate members can stream select games through Xbox Cloud Gaming on their iOS or Android devices via a supported web browser.

On the PC front, Microsoft is launching the Game Bar Compact Mode for all users. This compact mode is designed for smaller screens and Windows handhelds, allowing easy access to recently played games and game launchers. The Compact Mode is optimized for Xbox controllers, enabling quick navigation between widgets using the left and right bumpers (LB/RB).

For console users, Microsoft now facilitates pre-downloading game updates, enabling gamers to dive into their games immediately once updates go live. This feature can be activated in My Games & Apps > Manage > Updates. While not all game titles support this feature yet, popular games such as Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, and Cassette Beasts have already adopted pre-downloading of updates.

These enhancements contribute positively to the overall Xbox experience, empowering gamers to easily manage their games, subscriptions, and remain informed about the latest content.
