Windows 11 24H2: Printer Support Issues Reported for Arm Devices

However, users are now facing significant challenges regarding printer functionality on these devices.
Identified Issues with eSCL Protocol
Recent confirmations from Microsoft reveal that the eSCL (eScanner Communication Language) protocol is malfunctioning on Windows 11 24H2. This situation has led to a halt in the feature update rollout for affected systems, as the underlying issue arises when devices fail to switch from eSCL mode to necessary USB mode, resulting in communication conflicts.
Microsoft has stated:
“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might experience issues discovering USB-connected devices that support the eSCL scan protocol. Users may find that their USB-connected peripherals are not recognized, causing the device discovery process to stall. This primarily affects multifunction devices or standalone scanners implementing the eSCL protocol.”
eSCL serves as a driverless scanning protocol, enabling seamless scanning over both network and USB connections. The current issue arises when devices do not transition from eSCL to USB mode, which is essential for matching scanner drivers effectively.
To mitigate these update complications, Microsoft has implemented a compatibility hold on devices utilizing USB connections that are governed by the eSCL protocol. Consequently, these devices will be excluded from receiving the Windows 11, version 24H2 update through the Windows Update release channel.
