Fix for Windows 11 Media Creation Tool Issues on Arm64 Devices
In late September, shortly after the rollout of Windows 11 version 25H2, Microsoft acknowledged a significant issue affecting the Media Creation Tool. This essential application, designed for downloading Windows 11 and creating bootable media, faced operational problems on devices equipped with Arm64 processors. Users attempting to launch the tool would encounter error messages, preventing them from utilizing its features effectively.
Rapid Resolution by Microsoft
Lucky for users, alternatives are available for downloading and creating bootable media on Windows 11. Microsoft addressed the issue promptly in their latest non-security update, KB5067036, which applies to both Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 versions. This update specifically resolved the Media Creation Tool malfunction:
Fixed: The Media Creation tool (version 26100.6584), released on September 29, 2025, might not work as expected on devices with Arm64. Users may encounter an error message such as: “We’re not sure what happened, but we’re unable to run this tool on your PC.”This is a known issue for Windows 11, version 25H2.
How to Access the Update
It’s important to note that KB5067036 is categorized as an optional update. To install it, users need to navigate to Windows Update manually. Simply go to Settings > Windows Update, select Check for Updates, and then choose Download and install when prompted. Subsequent Patch Tuesday updates will incorporate all fixes and improvements made in this update.
Enhancements Beyond the Media Creation Tool
In addition to fixing the Media Creation Tool, KB5067036 introduces a host of valuable enhancements and new features. The update finally delivers a redesigned Start menu to users of Windows 11 24H2/25H2, alongside a new battery indicator on both the taskbar and lock screen. For users with Copilot+ PCs, the update enhances Click to Do features, Voice Access capabilities, and introduces various tweaks to File Explorer.
Most of these new features, aside from a few bug fixes, are being rolled out gradually. Fortunately, users do not need to worry about missing out on updates due to arbitrary rollouts.
