Microsoft explains blocking of Windows 11 24H2 on certain Asus PCs
Recently, we shared a comprehensive guide detailing the steps for users to manually update their PC to Windows 11 version 24H2 in situations where the update isn’t being provided through Windows Update. This process involves making adjustments to various Group Policy or Registry settings.
However, Asus device users experiencing difficulties with the update are strongly advised by Microsoft against attempting a forced installation. This precautionary measure comes after the identification of certain hardware compatibility issues on select Asus models that prompted an upgrade block by the company in collaboration with Asus.
The concern arose when it was observed that several PCs were unable to finalize the update, leading to instances of the infamous blue screen of death (BSOD). Currently, two specific models, the X415KA and X515KA, have been officially recognized as having these compatibility issues. The X415KA features an Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor, while the X515KA is powered by a Celeron N4500 chip. However, Microsoft has yet to specify the exact hardware component responsible for the complications.
According to their statement:
“Some ASUS devices, particularly the X415KA and X515KA models, may face problems during the update process to Windows 11, version 24H2, resulting in a situation where the system cannot complete the installation. Users might encounter a blue screen displaying an error message that prevents the successful upgrade to version 24H2.”
“This issue has been recognized through a partnership with ASUS and is related to specific hardware incompatibilities within these devices.”
“To protect the user experience, a compatibility hold has been implemented on these devices. Consequently, users will not receive the option to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the normal Windows Update channel. IT administrators can reference safeguard ID: 54157480 when checking this matter using Windows Update for Business reports.”
