Microsoft Enhances Windows 11 with New Feature for Multi-Monitor Users

Enhancements for Multi-Monitor Users in Windows 11

Microsoft is actively addressing feedback regarding the usability of Windows 11, particularly concerning the taskbar and Start menu functionalities. One long-standing issue that has particularly affected multi-monitor users is the challenge of accessing the notification center exclusively from the primary display. This means users with multiple monitors are forced to navigate to the main screen, which can disrupt workflows and productivity.

Current Issues with the Taskbar on Secondary Displays

In the existing setup, secondary displays show only the non-interactive time and date, limiting functionality. Users have been unable to access the tray area on these monitors, thus missing out on notifications without switching screens. Thankfully, Microsoft is rolling out a solution to this inconvenience, allowing users to access the notification center and calendar from any display.

Recent Updates from Microsoft

The awaited update is currently being deployed to users in the Dev and Beta Channels. According to the official release notes from Microsoft:

To address your feedback, we are extending the functionality of the Notification Center to secondary monitors. This means you will be able to see your calendar on any of your monitors as well as the option to show a bigger clock with seconds above the calendar. You will be able to open the Notification Center on any monitor by clicking the date and time in the system tray of your taskbar.

How to Enable the Update Manually

If you are using the latest build of Windows 11 but have yet to receive this update, you can manually activate it using the ViVeTool application. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to proceed:

  1. Download ViVeTool from GitHub and extract the files to an easily accessible folder.
  2. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and navigate to the ViVeTool folder using the ‘cd’ command.
  3. Input vivetool /enable /id:38762814 and hit Enter.
  4. Restart your computer to apply changes.
