Microsoft has introduced a significant enhancement to its Excel application optimized for Apple’s iPad. This update brings sheet protection capabilities to the iPad for the first time.
For those unfamiliar with this functionality, sheet protection is a valuable feature in select spreadsheet software that safeguards the contents of a spreadsheet from unauthorized alterations or deletions. In the context of Excel for iPad, users can now activate this feature via the app’s Sheet tab or the Ribbon menu.
The latest version enables users to simply tap the Sheet tab, indicated by a lock icon. After that, they can select the “Protection…”option from the pop-up interface. Alternatively, navigating to the Ribbon allows access through the Review section, followed by tapping on Protection.
Users of the iPad Excel app can easily choose the Pause Sheet Protection option to deactivate this feature, and later select Resume Sheet Protection to reactivate it. Additionally, users have the option to set a password via the Manage Sheet Protection selection, necessary to modify these settings. This functionality also allows users to add, modify, or remove edit ranges. The sheet protection feature is accessible for users of Excel on iPad, provided they have Version 2.90.930.0 or higher.
Moreover, Microsoft has announced today that the popular Handoff feature from Apple, which enables seamless transitions between different devices while working on files, is now integrated into the Excel, Word, and PowerPoint apps for iPad, iPhone, and Mac for the first time.
