Key Developments in Microsoft 365: What’s New?

Microsoft 365 offers a versatile suite of tools designed to enhance productivity in both personal and business settings. This all-encompassing package includes widely used applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Universal Print. For those keen on tracking enhancements and new features, Microsoft maintains a dedicated Microsoft 365 Roadmap portal, which recently reported the addition of 43 new items.

Updates on Universal Print

Focusing first on Universal Print, Microsoft plans to introduce audit logs in the Purview Unified Audit Log in a preview phase starting April 2026. This feature will allow tracking of both admin and user activities, with a general rollout expected by July 2026.

Enhancements in Teams

Microsoft Teams will see significant upgrades, starting with a revamped content-sharing panel slated for January 2026. This update aims to modernize screen sharing and enhance file discoverability. Furthermore, frontline workers will benefit from an enhanced mobile onboarding experience tailored for BYOD hardware in the same month. Notably, town hall organizers will gain the ability to effortlessly restart events impacted by technical difficulties instead of needing to reschedule entirely, a feature expected to roll out in December 2025.

Major Changes for Outlook

In Outlook, exciting functionalities are on the horizon. Beginning December 2025, both Android and iOS versions will streamline the experience by automatically collapsing multiple automatic replies, while still allowing users to expand them manually as needed. Additionally, Android users will soon be able to preview PDF documents directly within the Outlook app.

Innovations in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge is also set to receive a host of impactful features. Starting December 2025, users will be prompted before their autofill suggestions are saved, enhancing user control over browser settings. IT administrators will find new capabilities in configuring Edge for Business policies across different operating systems, including macOS, Android, and iOS, commencing from the new year. Additionally, Edge will support inline data security controls and data loss prevention (DLP) policies for interactions with unmanaged GenAI applications starting in December 2025, with a preview available this month.

New Capabilities for Microsoft 365 Copilot

As anticipated, Microsoft is rolling out a plethora of features for the Microsoft 365 Copilot. Some noteworthy upcoming enhancements include:

  • Enhanced freshness in Copilot connectors
  • Introduction of the AI Learning Agent (AILA)
  • Access to popular graph connector prompts in the Copilot Chat’s Prompt Gallery
  • Management of filters in Copilot Search by IT admins

  • Configuration of dedicated retention policies for Copilot and AI apps by admins

These developments reflect Microsoft’s commitment to continuing innovation within Microsoft 365. However, it’s important to note that the roadmap is subject to change, and some features may be adjusted or omitted entirely based on various factors.
