Microsoft enhances data protection with Copilot for Windows 11 work and education users

Today, Microsoft made a series of significant announcements regarding its Copilot offerings aimed at business and education customers. These updates include new features such as Copilot Pages, Copilot Agents, and enhanced capabilities across various Office applications. However, the announcements didn’t stop there; Microsoft has more in store for enterprise and education users.

According to a recent blog post, Microsoft is introducing new security features for Copilot tailored for work and school environments, specifically for users logging into Windows 11 Pro or Windows 11 Enterprise PCs. One key feature is that users of Copilot will benefit from enterprise data protection when they sign in with an Entra account. Microsoft emphasized:

This is a significant advancement in enhancing data protection for Microsoft Copilot. The improved security, privacy, and compliance controls available for Microsoft 365 Copilot will now extend to all Microsoft Copilot prompts and responses. If you were previously hesitant to implement Copilot into your work, now is the ideal time to explore its integration within your organization.

In addition, both the in-app and web iterations of Copilot will eliminate advertisements, aiming to “minimize disruptions”for users.

Moreover, the Microsoft 365 app will enable users with work or school accounts to utilize Copilot. Microsoft has indicated that enhancing Copilot’s features within the Microsoft 365 app will take precedence over updates to Copilot on Windows.

Microsoft announced that these improvements would align with the upcoming Windows 11 feature update, 24H2. The company elaborated:

These changes will be gradually rolled out to managed PCs, commencing with the optional non-security preview release on September 24, 2024, followed by the monthly security update on October 8 for all supported Windows 11 versions.

Additively, Microsoft confirmed that these enhancements will also apply to users operating Windows 10 in work and school environments starting in November, replacing the existing Copilot experience in Windows.
