Microsoft Edge to Receive Significant Speed Updates Soon

According to a recent update in the Microsoft 365 roadmap, Microsoft has confirmed that WebUI 2.0 is set to enhance the Edge settings, promising a significant performance increase for the browser. This information, classified under feature ID “419809,”details:

Microsoft Edge: Improvements to Edge Settings

The Edge Settings interface is transitioning to WebUI 2.0, which aims to enhance page responsiveness while introducing various minor visual and content improvements for better overall usability and functionality.

Regardless of personal experience, Microsoft asserts it has consistently focused on enhancing the performance of its Edge browser. In May of this year, the company released statistics indicating that the Browser Essentials UI was functioning 42% faster, with improvements soaring to 76% for lower-end systems lacking SSD and with less than 8 GB of RAM.

In conjunction with these announcements, Microsoft also introduced WebUI 2.0 to combat slow UI responsiveness caused by JavaScript rendering delays. The primary objective of WebUI 2.0 was to deliver a “very fast”browser UI, while recognizing the benefits of JavaScript. The company posed the following questions:

  1. Can we retain the developer productivity that JavaScript frameworks offer while generating code that renders UI quickly?
  2. Can the browser serve as its own best customer?
  3. How fast could we achieve performance if we eliminated the framework and constructed our UI solely using the web platform?

The answers to these questions are Yes, Yes, and Very Fast.

This new feature addition is not unexpected, as Microsoft previously stated its intention to “upgrade components of the Edge user interface to WebUI 2.0.”Consequently, we can anticipate similar updates in the coming months as additional Edge components undergo the WebUI 2.0 transformation.
