Microsoft Edge Beta 138: Exciting Features and Enhancements
Microsoft has rolled out a notable update to Edge Beta, now at version 138, which introduces a range of new features and improvements designed to enhance user experience.
New Media Control Center
One of the standout additions is the Media Control Center. This innovative feature allows users to manage multiple media sources from various websites conveniently in one location. A new button, featuring a note icon, will appear on the toolbar. Through this control center, you can:
- Initiate picture-in-picture mode
- Stream media to compatible devices
- Control music or video playback
- And much more
AI-Enhanced History Management
In addition, Edge Beta 138 introduces an AI-powered History feature. This intelligent utility enhances your ability to retrieve previously visited sites without recalling specific page titles or exact phrases. Users can now rely on synonyms, related phrases, or even approximate spelling. Microsoft emphasizes that this functionality operates through an on-device model, ensuring that no user data is sent to Microsoft itself. The rollout of this feature is set to occur gradually among Edge Beta insiders.
Dynamic Settings Menu and Other Improvements
Another noteworthy enhancement is the introduction of a Dynamic Settings Menu, which, like the AI history feature, will also be available to users incrementally over time.
Additional Updates in Version 138
Beyond the major features mentioned, Microsoft Edge Beta 138 includes several other improvements:
- The browser now defaults to your primary work profile for external links, rather than the last used profile, with a gradual rollout expected.
- An updated autofill feature introduces a toggle that allows users to consent to collecting web form field labels, aimed at enhancing suggestion accuracy. Rest assured, this feature only sends field labels, not user-entered data.
- Enterprise users will benefit from the ability to view sensitivity labels in MIP-protected PDFs.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat Summarization is now accessible directly from the context menu, also rolling out gradually.
Policy Updates and Release Information
As part of this major release, several policy updates have been made. For a comprehensive overview of these changes, you can refer to the official release notes.
For those interested in trying out these new features, Microsoft Edge Beta 138 is now available for download on the Edge Insider website. The stable version of these enhancements is anticipated to launch the week of June 26, 2025.
