Microsoft Edge enhances page color options and removes custom scrollbars

Microsoft has officially unveiled version 130 of its Edge browser in the Stable channel. This latest update comes packed with a variety of new features, as highlighted in last week’s change log, with additional enhancements announced today.

According to a blog post from Microsoft, one of the noteworthy enhancements in Edge 130 is the improved accessibility options. Users are now able to personalize page colors to better suit their reading preferences. The blog states:

Are the color schemes of web pages making it hard for you to read? Is the text either too bright or too dark? Are links blending into the background? If these issues resonate with you, the new Page colors feature in Microsoft Edge might be just what you need.

This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals with vision disabilities, color blindness, or sensitivity to light. Moreover, it can significantly help in minimizing eye strain and fatigue during extended browsing sessions.

Users of Edge 130 can access these options by navigating to the Settings and more (…) menu, selecting Settings, and then heading to the Accessibility section. Here, they will find the Page colors feature where they can choose from four available color themes: Dusk, Desert, Black, and White. Additionally, users can specify which websites they would like to exclude from these color settings.

Another significant new feature introduced in Edge 130 is the option to Turn off custom scrollbars. Microsoft has stated:

Although many web developers customize scrollbars for unique stylistic effects, we’ve heard from users that not everyone appreciates these changes. Some users prefer the default scrollbars provided by the browser as it enhances both consistency and accessibility. Thus, we are introducing the option to disable custom scrollbars to better cater to these preferences and improve overall usability.
