Microsoft Edge 130 Launches in Beta with Updated Settings and Features

Microsoft Edge 130 has entered the final testing phase ahead of its public release. The company has made version 130 available for testing in the Beta Channel, giving insiders an opportunity to preview the latest feature updates before it transitions to the Stable Channel during the week of October 17, 2024.

Version 130.0.2849.5 of Microsoft Edge includes numerous minor fixes and changes that developers have enacted across the previous four Dev updates. You can explore the details through the following links:

The feature updates and fixes in Microsoft Edge 130 Beta include significant enhancements to the Settings section. Users will now find quick links to the most frequently used features right on the settings homepage, as well as improved navigation for “densely populated pages.”

Feature Updates:

• Token Binding. Token Binding utilizes cryptographic certificates at both ends of the TLS connection to address security vulnerabilities associated with bearer tokens. However, Token Binding is deprecated in Microsoft Edge version 130, and the AllowTokenBindingForUrls policy is now obsolete.
• Seamless Link Opening in Teams for macOS. When Microsoft Edge is set as the default browser on macOS, and the relevant feature is enabled, web links from the Teams desktop app—including those shared via chats, channels, and calendars—will open automatically in the profile signed into the Teams app, negating the need to reauthenticate in the browser. This feature streamlines access to content, and administrators can manage its availability using the “Choose Which Browser Opens Web Links”policy in Microsoft 365. Please note: This feature is being gradually rolled out; if you do not see it, please check back later as we continue our rollout.
• Enhanced Settings Navigation. To improve user experience in locating browser settings, Microsoft Edge is implementing three enhancements to the Edge Settings interface. There will be no functional changes to any settings; all settings will remain on the same pages but will be organized into clickable sections. The updates are as follows:
  • Provide quick access to popular Settings actions on the Profiles page, the first page users visit when they enter Edge Settings. Clicking the button representing a specific setting will take users directly to that setting’s location.
  • Optimize access to the most used actions on densely populated Settings pages, such as Privacy, Search, Appearance, Cookies, and Site Permissions. A click on the button linked to a setting will navigate users directly to that setting within the page.
  • In these densely populated pages, lengthy sections of settings will feature a clickable “table of contents”with descriptive subtexts, aiding users in directly locating settings and minimizing unnecessary scrolling.

Note: As previously mentioned, this feature is undergoing a controlled rollout. If you do not see it available immediately, please check back as the rollout progresses.

Fixes:

• Resolved an issue that caused rendering problems on certain SharePoint sites.
• Addressed a problem where the briefcase icon did not appear on the edge://settings/sidebar page when the Edge Bar was disabled via the StandaloneHubsSidebarEnabled policy.
