Microsoft Delays Windows 11 24H2 Update Release Slightly

Earlier today, we released a report regarding the anticipated release date for Windows 11 version 24H2, which Microsoft appeared to confirm in a blog post discussing enhanced Copilot data protection. According to the post, the company was eyeing October 8, 2024, as the official release date for the annual Windows 11 feature update.

Nevertheless, following the report, Microsoft issued an “Editor’s note”on the original post refuting this information. It states:

Editor’s note 9.18.2024 – The dates mentioned below pertain to our regular monthly servicing updates for supported versions of Windows 11 and are not related to when Windows 11, version 24H2 will be generally available.

In addition to this editor’s note, Microsoft has also modified sections of the article that specifically referenced the “annual Windows 11 feature update release.”

Here’s what the original post conveyed:

When will this happen?

The update to Microsoft Copilot, aimed at improving enterprise data protection, is currently being rolled out.

The transition to the Microsoft 365 app as the primary access point for Microsoft Copilot will coincide with the annual Windows 11 feature update release. Changes will begin rolling out to managed PCs starting with the optional non-security preview release on September 24, 2024, and will follow with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11. These updates will be extended to Windows 10 PCs in the following month. This change is designed to replace the current Copilot experience in Windows.

Here is the revised version:

When will this happen?

The update to Microsoft Copilot to enhance enterprise data protection is currently rolling out.

The transition to the Microsoft 365 app as the primary entry point for Microsoft Copilot is forthcoming. Updates will commence for managed PCs with the optional non-security preview release on September 24, 2024, and will continue with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11. These changes will then be implemented on Windows 10 PCs in the subsequent month. This update will replace the existing Copilot experience in Windows.

If we were to speculate, it seems that Microsoft may be considering delaying the general availability of the 24H2 update, possibly due to an underlying issue, or they may not yet be ready to confirm a date.

This situation suggests that Microsoft has recently developed a pattern of premature communications.
