Microsoft’s Recent Update to Windows 11 Build 22631.5116
Microsoft has made some noteworthy changes to the changelog for Windows 11 build 22631.5116, which arrived in the Release Preview channel last week. The updated log not only revisits previously announced features but also includes several significant additions that were absent from earlier communications.
Context Menu Updates on Hold
One of the most prominent adjustments is the temporary halt of the updated context menus intended for Windows 11 version 23H2. Initially, the new context menus were part of the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2, which aimed to enhance user experience by introducing labels for common file actions such as copy, paste, cut, share, delete, and rename. However, Microsoft has decided to backtrack on this rollout for the 23H2 version, determining that additional time is required to resolve several issues. As stated:
[UPDATED] We’re no longer going to roll this change out in this release to address a few more issues.
This situation echoes the earlier postponement of the gamepad keyboard feature, which enables text entry using a controller. After addressing bugs, Microsoft reintroduced this feature to insiders for further testing.
Voice Access Gets New Language Support
In addition to the context menu update, the release notes for Windows 11 build 22631.5116 indicate an exciting expansion for the Voice Access capability. Originally launched in Windows 11 version 22H2, Voice Access allows users to operate their PCs and navigate the operating system via voice commands. The latest update enhances accessibility by adding support for both Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese:
[Voice access] [ADDED] New! We are introducing Chinese [sic] support for voice access. You can now use Voice Access to navigate, dictate, and interact with Windows using voice commands in Simplified Chinese (zh-cn) and Traditional Chinese (zh-tw).
Search Enhancements for EEA Users
Another addition in this build is a minor yet meaningful enhancement for users located in the European Economic Area (EEA).The update improves compatibility with web search providers in Windows Search, allowing for better discoverability:
[ADDED] Improved support for web search providers in Windows Search for the EEA, including with increased discoverability.
