Microsoft Launches DeepSeek-R1: Advancing AI Accessibility

The recent unveiling of DeepSeek-R1, a robust model boasting an impressive 671 billion parameters, positions it as a strong competitor to OpenAI’s GPT-3 in the realm of deep learning capabilities. This announcement has stirred considerable interest in the AI community, as Microsoft makes strides to enhance the availability of such advanced models.

As part of its commitment to enterprise solutions, Microsoft has made DeepSeek-R1 accessible through its trusted Azure AI Foundry and GitHub platforms. This move enables businesses to deploy AI models that are not only scalable but also adhere to stringent security protocols and service level agreements (SLAs).

Asha Sharma, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of AI Platform, commented on the launch, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI technologies:

“AI reasoning is becoming more accessible at a rapid pace, transforming how developers and enterprises leverage cutting-edge intelligence. As DeepSeek mentions, R1 offers a powerful, cost-efficient model that allows more users to harness state-of-the-art AI capabilities with minimal infrastructure investment.”

Accessing DeepSeek-R1: Multiple Platforms for Developers

Enterprises and developers can access DeepSeek-R1 through a variety of channels, making it easier than ever to integrate advanced AI into their projects:

  • Azure AI Foundry: Available as a serverless endpoint in the model catalog, allowing developers to select DeepSeek-R1 directly from the platform.
  • GitHub: Now part of GitHub Models, enabling developers to easily create AI features and applications. A playground is available for free trials, alongside API access.
  • Windows: Upcoming options will allow the use of distilled versions of DeepSeek-R1 on Copilot+ PCs, starting with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X-series. The model variations available will include DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-1.5B, with future releases of 7B and 14B variants planned.

Microsoft’s proactive approach in launching DeepSeek-R1 on Azure and GitHub ahead of its competitors showcases its dedication to becoming a premier destination for state-of-the-art AI models.
