Nostalgic Bug: Windows 11 Startup Sound Mix-Up
This month, an amusing bug came to light in the new Windows 11 preview builds, which elicited a wave of nostalgia among users. Microsoft inadvertently replaced the modern startup sound of Windows 11 with the iconic chime from Windows Vista, a sound that celebrates its 20th anniversary. The curious timing of this glitch has spurred conspiracy theories linking it to Apple’s announcement of “Liquid Glass”; however, Microsoft has explicitly denied these claims.
Fixing the Issue: Current Status
Just this week, Microsoft rolled out updated Windows 11 preview builds in a bid to rectify the startup sound mishap. Notably, the fix was successful for the Beta Channel, while the Dev Channel continues to include the outdated Vista sound. In the updated release notes, the tech giant acknowledged the confusion by stating, “This fix for this issue unfortunately is not working correctly in this build.”
