Microsoft Announces Significant Update on Windows New Outlook Enable/Disable Feature

Microsoft Extends Microsoft 365 Apps Support for Windows 10 Until 2028

In a significant development for users of Windows 10, Microsoft has announced an extension of support for Microsoft 365 applications on this operating system until 2028. This decision marks a shift in the company’s approach as it continues to evolve its services.

Rationale Behind the Delay

While the exact reasons for this change remain unclear, several major updates originally scheduled for implementation have yet to materialize. Notably, the unified management of core Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams and Outlook, has been temporarily placed “on hold.”This management feature was anticipated to roll out by July 2024.

Rescheduled Changes for Outlook

Another significant update regarding Outlook has also been rescheduled. In November 2024, Microsoft outlined changes concerning “New Outlook for Windows”and the web version of Outlook, particularly focusing on policy adjustments. This includes a shift in how certain policy parameters are handled.

Policy Parameter Updates

Specifically, the tech giant indicated that the OWAEnabled parameter would no longer be monitored. Instead, the system will exclusively check for the OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled parameter when accessing mailboxes.

Impacted Rollout Timeline

Initially planned to commence in January 2025 and wrap up by February 2025, this rollout has faced delays. Microsoft has subsequently revised its timeline, which is now communicated through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Updated Timeline

According to the announcement:

Updated May 8, 2025: We have updated the timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

We are changing how you enable or disable the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Microsoft Outlook for the web.

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out late June 2025 (previously late April) and expect to complete by mid-July 2025 (previously mid-May).
