Microsoft Edge 136.0.3240.64 Update: Enhancements and Fixes

Microsoft has rolled out a new update for its Edge browser, version 136.0.3240.64, enhancing the user experience with essential fixes and security improvements. This update comes shortly after the initial release of Edge 136 at the beginning of May and is now available for all users in the Stable Channel.

Key Improvements in Microsoft Editor

As the second most widely used desktop browser, Microsoft Edge features the Microsoft Editor, a custom spell checker designed to assist users in refining their writing. This tool not only identifies basic typos and spelling errors but also highlights grammatical issues and provides helpful suggestions. However, a previous update caused some functionality issues for Microsoft Editor, which Microsoft has now addressed with this release:

Fixed an issue which prevented Microsoft Editor from working and from offering suggestions for misspelled words.

Users should be aware that Microsoft Editor processes the text you enter by sending it to Microsoft’s servers for spell-checking. This feature is enabled by default, but if privacy is a concern, users can switch to a basic spellchecking option or disable it entirely. To modify these settings, navigate to Settings > Languages > Writing Assistance > Enable grammar and spellcheck assistance.

Security Enhancements Included in the Update

This update is not just focused on user interface improvements; it also addresses a significant security vulnerability in the Chromium framework:

  • CVE-2025-4372: A ‘Use after free’ vulnerability in WebAudio in Google Chrome prior to version 136.0.7103.92 could allow a remote attacker to exploit heap corruption through malicious HTML content.(Chromium security severity: Medium)
