Microsoft Access: Recent Updates and Bug Fixes
Despite the widespread adoption of modern relational database management systems (RDBMS) like SQL Server, Snowflake, and Redshift, a segment of users continues to operate with Microsoft Access. Fortunately, Microsoft remains committed to supporting this legacy software, and in its September 2025 release, the company highlighted various bugs that have been resolved.
Key Bug Fixes in Version 2507
The first update, Version 2507 (Build 19029.20136), addressed a total of eight critical issues. Below is a summary of the enhancements made:
- Import Errors Resolved: Users importing queries from older databases that were previously not compatible with the Monaco SQL editor will now experience smoother operations without errors.
- Unicode Character Support: The issue preventing the saving of queries containing Unicode characters in the Monaco SQL editor has been fixed.
- Wizard Functionality Restored: Errors that occurred when using the Find Duplicates and Crosstab query wizards have been eliminated.
- Context-Sensitive Help Improved: Previously, pressing the F1 key would crash the editor; this now invokes the intended help feature seamlessly.
- OLE Automation Reference Error Fixed: A bug related to referencing OLE automation objects in VBA code, particularly those stored in an Unbounded Object Frame, has been corrected.
- SQL View Stability: Crashes experienced while opening queries directly in SQL view have been addressed, enhancing stability.
- Image Display Issue Rectified: Images in button and image controls will now display properly.
- Salesforce Connector Advisory: Microsoft has added notifications regarding the deprecation of the Salesforce connector within Access.
Bug Fixes in Latest Version 2508
Following 2507, the subsequent update, Version 2508 (Build 19127.20154), included five additional bug fixes:
- Control Wizards Activation: Control wizards should now function correctly when users add controls to subforms in design view.
- Design View Crash Fixed: The application will no longer crash upon pressing F6 in Design View; navigation with forms is now supported.
- Large Number Fields: Users now have the capability to select Large Number fields in the Find Unmatched Query Wizard.
- Wizard Stability on 32-Bit Configurations: Previous errors faced by wizards on 32-bit systems should no longer disrupt user experience.
- HTML Encoding Issue Resolved: A bug causing incorrect encoding during HTML exports has been successfully patched.

If you are still utilizing Microsoft Access, it’s essential to be aware that support for Access 2016 and 2019 is set to expire soon. To ensure continued functionality and access to newer features, it is recommended to upgrade to a supported version, preferably through Microsoft 365.
