Welcome back to our weekly update on the latest changes and enhancements featured on the Microsoft 365 roadmap website. For those unfamiliar, this platform offers insights into upcoming features and updates from Microsoft’s productivity applications.
This week, it has been announced that a new calendar feature is set to be added to Microsoft Teams in November for PC and Mac users:
The new calendar within Teams integrates advanced productivity tools and the latest features such as Microsoft Copilot, enabling users to manage their schedules more effectively, prepare for meetings, recap discussions, and pinpoint optimal days for in-person collaboration. This unified calendar is designed to be intuitive and dependable, functioning seamlessly across the New Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, Microsoft Places, and Microsoft Teams. Users will be able to toggle the feature using the ‘New calendar’ option, which will be located at the top right corner of the Teams calendar application.
The update states that the new calendar feature in Teams will be disabled by default; however, users can activate it by selecting the “New calendar”toggle once it becomes available.
Another upcoming enhancement for Teams, set for November, focuses on meeting organizers. The feature will enhance controls for meeting chat across PC, iOS, and Android platforms:
The existing control to ‘Turn off copying or forwarding of meeting chat’ will be expanded to encompass live captions, transcription, and meeting recap. Organizers with eligible licenses will have access to a new control named ‘Turn off copying and forwarding of meeting chat, live captions, and transcript’ within the meeting options. Activating this control will prevent meeting participants from copying the chat, live captions, live transcript, or any insights generated by the intelligent meeting recap feature.
In addition to Teams, Microsoft is also rolling out improvements to Outlook in December. Users of Outlook for PC, web, iOS, and Android will enjoy a new organization feature utilizing Copilot:
Copilot will assist in prioritizing your inbox by highlighting high-priority emails and summarizing their significance within the message list and reading pane. Users can filter and sort their emails based on Copilot’s prioritization. Additionally, in the Web version and New Outlook for Windows, there will be an option for Copilot to flag low-priority emails.
Lastly, there’s an exciting update that indicates Copilot Chat is scheduled to be introduced to the web version of OneNote in January 2025.
That concludes our overview of the Microsoft 365 roadmap site for this week. Be sure to return next week for more updates and highlights from the website.
