Microsoft 365 Insiders Gain Access to Copilot Quick Actions in OneNote for Windows
For those utilizing the OneNote app on Windows for their note-taking needs, there’s exciting news! Microsoft’s Copilot can now assist you in summarizing your notes directly within the application. Currently, members of the Microsoft 365 Insider Program can test a newly introduced feature that enables OneNote users to access Copilot’s quick actions more efficiently.
In a recent blog update, Microsoft outlined:
The powerful capabilities of Copilot are now at your fingertips, enabling you to effortlessly rewrite content, summarize notes, and extract tasks—all with just a simple click.
To harness these features, just highlight the text in the OneNote app for Windows and click on the Copilot icon. You’ll be presented with three quick action options in a dropdown menu: “Summarize this,”which allows Copilot to create a summary of the selected text; “Rewrite this,”enabling Copilot to generate a new version of that content; and “Create a task list,”which prompts Copilot to formulate tasks based on your chosen text.
After making any edits to the highlighted text, clicking Keep It will save those modifications permanently. Alternatively, if the changes are not to your liking, you can click Delete to revert the text back to its original state.
It is important to note that there are a few known issues with this feature at present:
- Be aware that some user interface terms (like menus and command options) might be updated as this feature nears finalization.
- As with any AI-generated output, content created by Copilot is considered a draft and should be carefully reviewed for precision.
- Support for handling multiple selections is expected to be added soon.
Microsoft 365 Insiders on the Current Channel (Preview) can use this functionality with OneNote for Windows Version 2410 (Build 18129.20000) or newer. A consumer or business Copilot license is required for access.
