According to a recent blog post by Microsoft, one of the newly introduced pen tools is the Fountain Pen. When this feature is selected within the app, users can produce digital notes characterized by “thinner lines and detailed lettering.”Notably, OneNote also offers the ability to vary the pen thickness by adjusting speed and pressure during use.

The second innovative pen option in OneNote is the Brush Pen. The blog elaborates:

The Brush Pen allows for the effortless creation of artistic lettering. It is designed to adjust thickness automatically based on the stroke’s direction.

Users participating in the Microsoft 365 Insider program can access both the Fountain Pen and Brush Pen features in the Draw tab of OneNote or by selecting the Add Pen button.

Beyond introducing these new pen features, Microsoft has also revamped all the pen icons within the application. The company asserts this refresh will deliver “a new, cohesive look across your favorite productivity applications.”

To access these new pen tools and icons, Insider program members will need to update their OneNote application to Windows Version 2408 (Build 18011.20000) or later. As of now, Microsoft hasn’t announced when these features will be made available to the broader user base.

In recent months, Insiders have also been testing a new interactive ink tutorial within OneNote, alongside a feature where the Copilot AI assistant can analyze handwritten notes.
