Microsoft 365 Companion Apps Introduce Copilot Integrations for Enhanced Productivity
Recently, Microsoft announced the introduction of companion apps for Microsoft 365, specifically designed for Windows 11 users. These compact applications, which automatically install and launch at startup, now feature the integration of Copilot, the intelligent AI assistant aimed at boosting productivity.
Enhanced Interactions with Copilot in the People App
The first major integration involves Copilot within the People app. This feature enables users to access information about recent communications and responsibilities, streamlining efforts to connect with colleagues. With simple prompts such as “Tell me more about John Doe, ”users can obtain additional insights efficiently.
Streamlining Document Management with Copilot in the Files App
Next, Copilot extends its capabilities to the Files app, where users can employ the AI assistant to summarize documents, evaluate changes, analyze datasets, and create actionable items. For instance, a prompt like “Summarize this Excel workbook”can help users quickly grasp the essentials of their files.
Keeping Meetings Organized with Copilot in Calendar
Lastly, Copilot’s integration in the Calendar app promises to enhance workday organization. Among its functionalities are the generation of meeting summaries and support for meeting preparations, allowing users to request, for example, “Suggest talking points for this meeting.”This ensures that meetings remain focused and productive.
Optimized Workflows with AI-Driven Insights
These Copilot integrations aim to minimize distractions, enabling users to concentrate on their tasks more effectively. Microsoft has stressed that these tools are designed for speed, completing tasks at a “lightning fast”pace. Importantly, Copilot is built on user work data, ensuring that the insights it provides remain relevant and actionable. Users are also equipped with a dynamic prompt box to refine or broaden their search inquiries. A recommended workflow is to conduct a general search using the built-in search bar and then utilize Copilot for specific insights based on the results.
Availability and Future Developments
Currently, the Copilot features in the People and Files apps are accessible to customers with Enterprise or Business WeUs who possess licensing for Microsoft 365 Copilot and have the Microsoft 365 companion apps installed. Meanwhile, the integration with the Calendar app is anticipated to launch at a later date, with further specifics yet to be announced.
