Coaches Share Their Thoughts on Shye and Jamison Puckett’s Battle
In this thrilling episode, The Voice continued with Battle Round 3. Coaches joined forces with their team members, assigning them songs to perform as they showcased their distinctive vocal talents. The victorious contestant from each pairing advanced to the next stage, while the other faced elimination.
In the battle between Team Bublé’s Jamison Puckett and Shye, both singers took the stage to perform “Love Yourself.”Bublé noted that he found both contestants had “soulful voices,”expressing confidence in their ability to deliver both R&B and soul performances.
Ahead of her competition with Puckett, Shye shared her thoughts on the chosen track:
“This song is close to my pop rock-type of genre. There’s some slight reggae compliments to it, and I’ve never done anything like that before. But I love a challenge.”
After the showdown, all four coaches from The Voice Season 26 provided their insights on the performances. Snoop Dogg was particularly taken with how the song showcased the strengths of both singers, commending their overall presentation and opting not to choose between them.
“Being able to highlight those big notes and then to stay calm on certain parts and to allow the song to grow. That was dope. .. Much success to whoever wins, and whoever doesn’t win, you still did an amazing job,”added Snoop.
Reba McEntire also praised the vocalists, expressing her struggle to decide who stood out. She complimented their camaraderie and noted that their performance set was “cute as a button.”
Coach Gwen Stefani was equally impressed with Shye and Jamison Puckett, stating she wished to hear more from them due to their captivating voices.
Offering advice to Puckett, she noted he should aim for “a little bit longer with the notes and less syncopated.”But it was Shye who particularly caught her attention:
“The problem for me was Shye is 17-years-old and I cannot believe what you just did. It seems like you have zero nerves. The whole time I’m just sitting here going, ‘Okay, 1987, No Doubt, I was 17.’ I couldn’t have done that, and it’s just so cool to watch.”
Stefani concluded that both performers were “equally gifted,”declaring their duel one of the finest she had witnessed throughout the Battles.
Ultimately, Bublé chose Shye to advance in the competition, although he expressed his regret at having to let Puckett go. He reflected on the journey, sharing that he learns something new each day and that the dynamics of the show frequently took surprising turns.
Following his elimination, Jamison Puckett expressed gratitude towards his coach for the mentorship he received. He acknowledged the experience as life-changing, especially with his wife expecting their first child soon.
“This has been an incredible experience. My life is a total whirlwind right now, with my wife five months pregnant. Regardless of what happened here, I’m winning.”
Viewers can catch The Voice season 26 episode 10, titled “The Battles Part 4,”premiering on NBC on October 29.
