Meta’s AI Tool Finds Itself in Trouble as It Inaccurately Creates Images of a Mixed-Race Couple

Following Google’s footsteps, Meta’s AI image generation has encountered difficulties as it struggles to produce precise images even with simple prompts.

A recent report has surfaced, discussing how Meta’s image generator produced an image of an Asian man with a white woman that was not entirely accurate, even though the prompts had undergone multiple adjustments.

Meta’s AI Image Generator Follows in Google’s Footsteps with Image Generation Capabilities

The report discusses the consistent inability of Meta’s AI to produce accurate images, raising concerns about potential bias towards certain races. Despite the simplicity of the prompts used in the AI image generator tool on Instagram, it continued to generate inaccurate images. These prompts included phrases such as “Asian man and Caucasian friend”or “Asian man and white wife,”and this issue was not isolated, occurring multiple times.

The Verge also discusses the Meta AI image generator’s ability to successfully create only one accurate image out of multiple attempts. The prompt for this successful image was an Asian woman with a Caucasian husband. This indicates that the nine previous attempts were unsuccessful, as the platform generated inaccurate images. Examples of these inaccurate images can be seen below.

We have encountered similar incidents with AI image generators before. To jog your memory, Google had to close down Gemini’s AI image generation tool due to its tendency to produce inaccurate images, which is comparable to the problem we are facing with Meta’s image generator.

To be completely honest, I am not surprised by this. I have constantly warned people about the unreliability of image generators and how they can potentially lead to confusion. It is best to approach them with caution. Currently, there has been no explanation from Meta regarding the actions of the AI image generator. However, as the tool is still in beta, it is expected to make mistakes.

We will continue to provide updates on this post as Meta responds to the mistakes made by its AI-image generator. In the meantime, please share your experiences with using this image generator thus far.
