In the expansive world of Metaphor: Refantazio, players can immerse themselves in various activities alongside the central narrative quests, including the exhilarating target bounties available at the recruitment center. Today, we will focus on one specific bounty: the formidable Kokamordos, featured in the “Cockatrice in the Clouds”mission.
This particular bounty becomes accessible during the final month of gameplay, prompting adventurers to journey to the Manor of the Ascendant within the Port Brilehaven region. However, navigating through this ancient estate can pose its challenges, especially when faced with the unexpectedly tough boss fight awaiting at the end.
Fortunately, this guide will detail your journey and provide strategies to conquer the Kokamordos, ensuring that you can return triumphantly with its coveted trophy.
Navigating The Manor Of The Ascendant
Surprisingly, despite being one of the endgame side dungeons, the Manor of the Ascendant is relatively brief. Nevertheless, it should not be underestimated. To better prepare for this dungeon, let’s review the enemies you will encounter and their weaknesses:
Enemy | Weakness | Resistances/Immunity |
---|---|---|
Potolpo Bridge | Lightning |
|
Noctiluca Papyrmas | Pierce, Wind, Dark |
|
Ostolfo | Fire, Light |
|
Raging Raven | Pierce |
|
Balmy Breath | Fire |
|
Cocasador | Pierce, Fire |
|
Dark Elementa | Light |
|
Your primary mission within the dungeon involves utilizing the teleportation platforms that are positioned between the map’s four sides. To activate these platforms, you’ll first need to proceed to the northern portion of the dungeon and pull the switch.
Be cautious of Potolpo Bru pots scattered throughout, as they explode like landmines upon proximity. Once you reach the teleporter room, you can move to the right where you’ll encounter some enemies and collect a Tainted Polearm.
Before entering the left teleporter room housing the Balmy Alento, ensure you grab the Magla Injection from the hallway filled with enemies.
Referencing the submitted image, squeeze through the crawlspace in the western teleporter room to access a ladder, leading you to the upper balcony of the dungeon.
In the marked image, green highlights indicate your progression path, while blue shows the location of valuable items:
- Dragonblood Sap: Accessible via a crawlspace on the floor’s lower section, guarded by three enemies.
- Golden Beetle: Accessible through another crawlspace located at the north section, prior to the crawlspace leading to the ladder back to the teleport switch room.
- Talisman of the Femme: Descend the northernmost ladder to find this talisman in a room, being mindful of the Potolpo pots present.
Once you’ve gathered your resources, head down the southern ladder on the balcony to reach the eastern side of the ground floor.
Collect the Graced Water at the base of the ladder, then defeat any enemies in your path as you proceed to the northern teleporter plate room.
Activate the switch here, triggering a cutscene that lights up all teleporter plates, including the one found in this room. These plates transport you to and from the central area, where a Kokasador patrols, so prepare accordingly.
On the middle floor, take the centermost teleporter platform to transition to a new area, where you will encounter a Chipped Tooth for crucial information regarding the Kokamordos.
Before entering the final boss hallway, you will find a room housing another Kokasador, a Papyrmas, and two Potolpo Brus. After they detonate, utilize the crawlspace behind them to access two treasure chests containing valuable gear.
One chest contains the Heavenly Raiment, enhancing your stats by +5, while the other features the Rakshasi’s Fan, a weapon specifically designed for the Masked Dancer Archetype. This concludes the overview of all missable items found within this dungeon.
Proceed upwards to reach a save point before you ultimately confront the Kokamordos.
How To Prepare For The Kokamordos
The Kokamordos is a level 67 large Bird Monster, vulnerable to Pierce and Ice attacks. Before diving into additional details, let’s explore an effective party setup, their archetypes, and strategic notes for optimal performance during the fight:
Party Setup | Archetypes | Additional Notes |
---|---|---|
Protagonist | Prince | Utilize skills from various archetypes to exploit weaknesses. Activate Hero’s Cry at the battle’s start for an advantage with four additional turns. |
Hulkenberg | Dark Knight | Employ Pierce attacks to target weaknesses. Acquire the Shelter Formation from the General Archetype. |
Junah | Master Person | Junah acts as our Support and Debuffer; inherit skills from the Trickster and Healer Elite Archetypes. Any mask can be equipped; I recommend the Elementalist. |
Basilio | Destroyer | Basilio synergizes excellently with the Protagonist, enhancing weaknesses. The Hex Shot skill from the Sniper Archetype will excel during this battle. |
This confrontation has a specific gimmick you can address ahead of time by heeding the advice of NPCs within the dungeon and the Info Broker at the Tavern.
While the initial analysis may not disclose all of the Kokamordos’ attacks, understanding its primary tactic is pivotal for success, including:
- Attacks: The Kokamordos executes techniques like Gabouat, inflicting fire damage on all party members; Dark Breath, unleashing dark magic damage; and Vidyartha, a debuff skill that substantially weakens a specific party member’s attack and defense.
- Gimmick: Watch for an Insta-kill move; thus, prepare using Hulkenberg’s Shelter Formation skill, vital for overcoming this fight.
- Optional Party Members: If your team lacks strong Pierce attacks, consider replacing Basilio with Eupha for her Devil Summoner abilities. Additionally, you may support with Blizzathon on your team to maximize damage effectively from the Back Formation lineup.
How To Defeat The Kokamordos
At the beginning of the battle, I highly suggest the protagonist use the Hero’s Cry skill from the Prince Archetype to gain four extra turns. While it’s not mandatory, this tactic is well worth the 99 MP cost for this critical encounter.
If Basilio is in your team, charge up before using the Hex Shot to amplify your damage output. For Hulkenberg, immediately activate Shelter Formation to bolster your party’s defense.
Additionally, with Hero’s Cry already boosting your turn icons, you may activate Gallica’s Bond to ensure maximum efficiency in battle.
Under normal circumstances, keeping your team in the backline is advisable; however, if Hulkenberg’s high endurance allows her to tank damage effectively, feel free to position her on the frontlines while maximizing her Pierce skills.
As the Kokamordos often employs the Vidyarhta debuff on your team, consider inheriting that skill from the Trickster Archetype and shifting it back onto the Kokamordos to quickly reduce its effectiveness during the fight.
Be vigilant with your defense buff; ensuring it remains active should be your priority. This strategy applies not only here but also throughout subsequent endgame boss encounters.
Basilio’s Destroyer Archetype allows for a potent synthesis ability when paired with the Prince’s Wild Bore, delivering considerable physical Pierce damage to the Kokamordos while simultaneously decreasing its attack capabilities.
Stick to your game plan and feel free to rotate party members during the fight if you find any are underperforming. If you are adequately leveled, you should be victorious quickly.
