The first chapter is available to read for free on the Manga Plus website. Readers familiar with the game’s plot will immediately note alterations in the introduction. The protagonist, now known as Will, ventures into the capital city of Grand Trad, accompanied by his fairy companion, Gallica, where they find themselves ambushed by bandits. In a significant deviation from the game, the noble knight Strohl steps in to rescue them instead of Hulkenberg.
Upon arriving in Grand Trad, Will encounters Maria, who is subsequently kidnapped. Teaming up with Strohl, Will embarks on a mission to save her. They take her to the Hushed Honeybee tavern, where Gallica meets Grius, and plans are set in motion for an assassination plot against Louis the next day. Notably, the initial storyline involving Will and Strohl joining the army, confronting a human antagonist, and awakening their Archetype powers has been removed, simplifying the narrative for the manga’s format. Readers are left wondering how and when Archetypes will be introduced, given their role in character development and as sources of power against adversaries.

This adaptation isn’t Atlus’s first foray into manga. Previous adaptations have also altered narratives while aiming to maintain core storylines. Despite the initial differences observed in the Metaphor: ReFantazio manga, it is expected that the overarching story will remain consistent, albeit with selections made to improve pacing. There have been speculations regarding a future anime adaptation, similar to past adaptations of the Persona franchise. While details about Studio Zero’s next endeavors or prospects for a sequel to Metaphor: ReFantazio remain under wraps, fans can eagerly follow the unfolding narrative in the manga series.
