In a 2024 appearance on the podcast So Wrong It’s Right, Mel B raised eyebrows by suggesting that Geri Horner was dishonest about her age. She articulated her skepticism regarding Geri’s claimed birthday.
“No, well no one knows how old Geri is. No one’s seen her passport. I mean, I know we’ve traveled the world, but I still don’t know how old she is. Well, she claims she just had her 50th birthday, but I don’t believe her,”Mel B asserted.

Stephen Belafonte’s Lawsuit and Leaked Text Controversy
On May 29, 2024, Mel B’s former husband, Stephen Belafonte, initiated a $5 million defamation lawsuit against her in Florida. He accused her of orchestrating a campaign aimed at inflicting emotional distress and tarnishing his reputation. The couple had tied the knot on June 6, 2007, and welcomed their daughter on September 1, 2011. Their tumultuous relationship ended in divorce in December 2017, following Mel B’s allegations of abuse.
Belafonte’s lawsuit detailed that Mel B had allegedly harassed him since 2017 with unfounded claims regarding domestic violence.
“Nevertheless, the damage had been done. As a result of Ms. Brown’s false allegations of r*pe, illegal gun possession, s*x trafficking, production of illegal p*rnography, domestic battery and child endangerment, Mr. Belafonte lost access to his home and children,” the legal documents claimed.
Additonally, the lawsuit introduced leaked text exchanges between Mel B and Geri Horner, suggesting that Mel B sought to exploit her charitable status for personal gain.
“Charity doesn’t pay the bills,” Mel B allegedly remarked.
In response, Geri emphasized the importance of positive charity work, indicating the collective power of their brand.
“I hope nobody ever hacks your texts!!!!! I believe we should do something good and kicking off with a charity gig would be hugely positive,” Geri replied.
Despite the ongoing turmoil, Mel B maintained that her statements were justified. Through these exchanges, Belafonte’s lawsuit also pointed out that she was attempting to benefit personally from her charity engagement.
Belafonte’s demands from the lawsuit included $5 million in damages, a jury trial, punitive damages, and a gag order against Mel B.
