Maximize Your Pixel 10’s 12GB RAM: Simple Solution for Slower AI Processing

In a recent move concerning the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10, Google has opted to maintain the same RAM specifications, yet it has strategically allocated 3GB of RAM for the Tensor TPU. This decision is aimed at enhancing the device’s performance in AI-driven tasks, granting quicker access to relevant features. However, this allocation reduces the available RAM for other applications to just 9GB, which can compromise the usability of the Pixel 10, especially for users who prefer having numerous apps running simultaneously in the background. Thankfully, there is a method to reclaim the full 12GB of RAM with a few straightforward adjustments.

Google Empowers Users to Disable RAM Allocation for Tensor TPU

The presence of 12GB of RAM on an Android device significantly enhances its multitasking capabilities. This upgrade allows users to effortlessly manage multiple applications operating in the background while also executing resource-intensive programs, such as high-performance games, providing a seamless user experience. In contrast, the Pixel 9 utilized RAM only as needed for AI functions, which, while freeing up memory for the operating system, resulted in a less responsive performance overall.

For the Pixel 10, Google has introduced a compromise. If you find AI features unnecessary, you can simply disable their RAM allocation to free up memory. To do this, navigate to the Settings menu, proceed to Apps, and select All apps. In the top-right corner, tap on the three-dot menu, choose Show system, and you will locate AI Core. By selecting this option, you can easily disable the service.

Settings > Apps > All apps > Show system > AI Core

Following these steps will liberate a portion of your system memory, though it may result in slower AI processing. If, however, you find 12GB of RAM insufficient for your needs, consider upgrading to the Pixel 10 Pro, which comes equipped with a robust 16GB of RAM. While this option requires a higher investment, a $200 gift card from Amazon could make the purchase more appealing. Be sure to opt for the 256GB model, as it features the superior UFS 4.0 technology, unlike the 128GB versions that utilize UFS 3.1, ensuring better performance and storage speed.
