Max Holloway provides insight into plans for “fun” Islam Makhachev title clash post UFC 300 victory

Max Holloway has recently discussed the possibility of a title fight against Islam Makhachev and acknowledged that it may come to fruition.

The ex-featherweight champion is getting ready for another shot at 155 pounds, as he is set to face Justin Gaethje for the ‘BMF’ title at UFC 300. He has responded to the backlash surrounding his move up in weight to take on ‘The Highlight’ and could potentially earn a chance at a title if he claims the ‘BMF’ belt.

During his conversation with Kevin Iole, ‘Blessed’ suggested that his decision to move up to 155 pounds may not be temporary and also noted that there are numerous opportunities available to him if he continues to compete in the lightweight division after UFC 300. He stated:

“I’m in a situation, I’m in a place where first things first is [Justin] Gaethje but if I can go out there and get my hand raised [at UFC 300] like we plan on doing, there’s a lot of fights that can be there for us. And one of them being the [155-pound] champ, which I think would be a fun one.”

It will be intriguing to witness if the potential match between Holloway and Makhachev comes to fruition, as defeating the No. 2-ranked lightweight could potentially propel ‘Blessed’ into the lightweight title discussion.

Max Holloway silences his critics with fierce words

Despite facing criticism for his decision to move up to 155 pounds for a ‘BMF’ title clash against Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway remains firm in his belief and stated that he has a different thought process.

The ex-UFC featherweight champion has been recording his training for the upcoming fight and recently responded to those who think he is making a wrong decision. He expressed that the negative comments bother him as he strives to enhance his legacy in the sport.

According to Holloway:

“That’s why me and you guys is different. That’s why a lot of fighters is cut from a different…If you [are] on the pound-for-pound list, that mean where you stand. Where you among these other pound-for-pounds. And I’m sick of everybody telling me what I gotta think, how I gotta do, putting a limit on me, you know what I mean? Just because you put a limit on yourself, don’t put a limit on others.”
