Mastering Absolum: Strategies to Defeat Absolum in Battle

Absolum serves as the final boss in the gameplay experience but with a significant twist: players cannot confront Absolum until after defeating Azra and completing the game’s credits.

Considered one of the most formidable challenges in the game, players will encounter Absolum during a new run, with the option to activate Rifts for an even greater level of difficulty. Regardless of how you approach this latest roguelike encounter, the confrontation with Absolum awaits at the conclusion. This guide will provide you with essential strategies, optimal pathways, and rewards for vanquishing this tentacled deity.

Optimal Strategy to Confront Absolum

Absolum Best Path

Since Absolum resides at the end of the game, the strategy to approach this encounter mirrors the one I recommended for Azra. The path you choose largely depends on the bosses you feel most comfortable defeating based on your current build.

Below is a list of key bosses you will face, including guidance on reaching them. By this stage, you should have a solid understanding of the challenges that lie ahead.

  • The Mushtroll — Start your adventure by navigating to the bottom right of the screen where you will encounter a boulder blocking a path. Destroy it to find the Mushtroll shortly after.
  • Gazorg, Son of Zorg — Continue along the lower path past the Mushtroll, and you will soon face Gazorg.
  • The Underking — This boss serves as the final challenge in Grandery before you can progress to other continents.
  • Zafari, the Bandit Queen — Break the locked door on her boat to confront her and claim some of her treasure.
  • The Dead Guardians — After unlocking Yeldrim, you can encounter these foes by heading to Zarafi’s boat. Follow the lower path from the haven in Yeldrim to find them.
  • Morta Mima, the Silver Queen — As the concluding boss of Yeldrim, she presents a formidable obstacle before you reach Asterios.
  • Azra, the Sun King — The final opponent you must defeat before facing Absolum.

How to Beat Absolum

Prepare for an extensive battle, as this fight is by far the longest in the game, encompassing multiple phases and numerous mechanics.Be aware that you’ll need a Mother’s Grace to survive Absolum’s potent one-hit attack at the onset.

Even if you think you have him on the ropes, Absolum has plenty more in store, so ensure every preparation is meticulously taken care of to handle the ensuing chaos.

It appears that Absolum’s defense is quite formidable, though there may be ways to breach it with exceptional skill.

Absolum Phase One

In this initial phase, Absolum isn’t excessively aggressive.Focus on maintaining your distance as he primarily executes slicing and cutting attacks.

The table below outlines the various attacks you’ll encounter, but proceed with caution as foreknowledge does not guarantee ease.

Spinning Slice Extends both arms in a circular motion around him (Red Indicator attack). Dodge or Clash

Phase Two

Absolum Phase Two

Upon depleting Absolum’s health to near-zero, he resets the encounter, introducing fresh attack patterns. Unfortunately, he will also adopt an attack rendering him invulnerable, which can be quite frustrating, albeit without the ability to retaliate during this period.

This phase is relatively brief, as the upcoming portion expands on the attack dynamics.

Attacks Descriptions Dodge, Deflect, or Clash
Red Slice Performing a slicing attack towards the front. Deflect or Clash
Whirlwind Slice Raises its head before thrusting downwards, creating a large area of effect. Dodge or Clash
Invulnerable Dash Becomes impervious, leaving afterimages while randomly dashing to you for an attack. Dodge or Deflect
Red Spinning Ball A modified version of the initial spinning ball attack, now with hazardous Red Indicator balls that detonate shortly after. Dodge

Phase Three

Absolum Phase Three

In a dramatic shift, Absolum will slam down onto the platform, physically damaging it and sending you to a new battleground. While no new attacks are introduced, he will utilize every ability he has previously demonstrated, significantly increasing the fight’s intensity.

Constant vigilance is essential in this final phase; be prepared for a relentless onslaught. The accompanying video will provide further insight on how to navigate this challenging encounter.

Rewards for Defeating Absolum

Absolum Rewards

The rewards for defeating Absolum are limited to in-game currency and an achievement. Once you successfully conquer Absolum, the game concludes, marking a definitive end, and any future runs will start prior to this encounter.

While you can use your score to showcase your achievements to peers or vie for high scores, currently, there is no leaderboard for competitive ranking. However, achieving victory against Absolum with one character opens up opportunities to explore new roguelike experiences with others in future attempts.
