Marvel Unveils New Ultimate Weapon Against Thor: Introducing His Son

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Immortal Thor #19! Within the realm of Marvel Comics, few characters possess the extraordinary capacity to rival Thor. As a member of the Avengers, Thor stands as one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and he also embodies the title of King of Asgard, endowed with the All-Power inherited from Odin, his father. Even before harnessing this immense power, Thor was known as the God of Thunder, a figure of unparalleled strength. Now, with the All-Power coursing through his veins, he appears invincible—except for a potential threat from an unexpected source: his own son.

In an intriguing preview for The Immortal Thor #19 (crafted by Al Ewing, Jan Bazaldua, CAFU, Dan Jurgens, David Baldeón, Gavin Guidry, Gleb Melnikov, and Humberto Ramos), Lady Sif is seen standing at the Rainbow Bridge, ready to welcome Thor’s son, Magni. Born to Thor and Enchantress, Magni asserts his loyalty to his father despite his mother’s notorious reputation as a villain in the Marvel universe.

Meanwhile, the Enchantress lurks in her sanctum, observing her son interact with Lady Sif. She contemplates her nefarious plot aimed at eliminating Thor and seizing his power. Enchantress dismisses Magni’s allegiance, noting that her strategy does not hinge upon his direct participation. Her ultimate goal is to orchestrate Thor’s demise, allowing the All-Power to pass to Magni, only to subsequently kill him in the hope that the power will revert to her—Thor’s greatest adversary.

Thor’s Son May Be His Greatest Threat, but the True Evil Mastermind is Enchantress

Thor’s son poses a formidable challenge, not only due to the potential to acquire the All-Power following his father’s death but also because Magni is the offspring of two immensely powerful beings: Thor, the mightiest of the Asgardian gods, and Enchantress, a formidable sorceress. The prospect of Magni—possibly capable of defeating Thor in combat—gains an added layer of complexity; should he succeed, he would absorb the All-Power and become an even greater threat to those around him.

Fortunately for Thor, this preview indicates that Magni is not inclined to harm his father. However, this does not preclude the dangers he may unwittingly present, as the real mastermind behind these events remains Enchantress.

There’s 1 Problem with Enchantress’ Plan: Magni Isn’t Thor’s Son (Not THIS Thor, Anyway)

Magni Isn’t from Earth-616; His Home Universe is Earth-3515

While Enchantress’s strategy appears calculated, it encounters a significant flaw: Magni is not the son of the Thor in Earth-616. Instead, he stems from the versions of Thor and Enchantress that exist in Earth-3515, thereby nullifying any possible inheritance of the All-Power upon this Thor’s death. This intricacy poses a risk to Enchantress, as her machinations may fail to yield the desired outcome, leaving her without the power she seeks.

Nevertheless, as mentioned, Enchantress may find solace in the notion that even without the All-Power, she could eliminate two potent adversaries. Consequently, Thor faces immense peril in the unfolding narrative, with his son potentially being manipulated as a weapon against him.

The Immortal Thor #19 from Marvel Comics is set to be released on January 15, 2025.
