Marvel Rivals Soars: Record Numbers in Season 1 Launch
NetEase’s free-to-play superhero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has surpassed expectations since its launch. Originally hitting a milestone of over 20 million players in its debut month, the game has gained even more traction with the release of Season 1. Just hours ago, the title broke its previous peak of 480,000 concurrent players on Steam, now boasting an astounding 644,000 online players, as reported by SteamDB.
Season 1: New Characters and Exciting Changes
The much-anticipated first season kicked off two days ago, introducing iconic characters from the Marvel universe: Mister Fantastic and Human Torch both classified as Duelists, the Thing as a Vanguard, and the Invisible Woman as a Strategist. Their addition, coinciding with an upcoming MCU movie, has undoubtedly contributed to the game’s growing popularity.
Introducing the Doom Match Mode
Gamers can now explore a thrilling new game mode named Doom Match, where 8 to 12 players engage in intense battles across a single map. Each player represents a different faction, all of which are in opposition to one another. Points are scored by eliminating foes, and at the end of each match, the top 50% of players are declared the winners, adding a layer of competitiveness and strategy.
Exclusive Seasonal Events and Rewards
Season 1 has also launched a unique event called Midnight Features, allowing players to undertake seasonal tasks to earn exclusive rewards. These include limited-time costumes, sprays, galleries, and nameplates. Additionally, starting yesterday, Twitch users have the opportunity to unlock special Drop rewards like the Hela: Will of Galacta spray and costume.
Enhanced Battle Pass and Earnings Projections
Season 1 brings with it a revamped Battle Pass, which reportedly contains more than double the content compared to the Season 0 pass. Dubbed the Eternal Night Fall Luxury Battle Pass, it includes 10 new costumes along with various related items such as sprays and emotes. Priced at 990 Lattice, completing the pass rewards players with 600 Lattice and 600 Units. Furthermore, a new mechanism ensures that Luxury Battle Passes do not expire, preserving the value of Chrono Tokens under specific conditions.
According to the Chinese gaming site Game Look, Marvel Rivals is projected to have generated substantial earnings in its first month, estimating around $54.5 million from Steam, $27.2 million from PlayStation 5, and $2.7 million through Xbox Series S|X. With additional earnings from the Epic Games Store and its proprietary PC client, total revenue outside China is estimated to have reached $100 million. Including projections from the Chinese version, total earnings may skyrocket to $136 million. Given its rapid success, the game could potentially evolve into a franchise that grosses over $1 billion annually, although retaining player interest remains a challenge for live service games.
Future Optimizations and NVIDIA Support
Players can now access Marvel Rivals via the NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud service, enhancing accessibility. Furthermore, support for NVIDIA’s advanced DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation technology is on the way for RTX 50 graphics cards, promising improved performance and graphics quality in the near future.
