Concerns Surround Ikechi Ojoré in ‘Married at First Sight’ Season 18
This season of Married at First Sight has stirred considerable drama, particularly with cast member Ikechi Ojoré. His behavior towards his wife, Emem Obot, has raised serious concerns, prompting viewers to question the casting decisions made by the show’s producers. As season 18 reaches its one-month milestone, only Camille Parsons and Thomas appear to be thriving, having consummated their marriage, while Ikechi and Emem have quickly descended into turbulence.
Previously, Michelle Tomblin and David Trimble held the title for the most troubled couple, yet their determination has showcased their willingness to work through issues. Conversely, Ikechi has emerged as a particularly negative influence in his relationship with Emem, suggesting that the decision to cast him may have been a misjudgment by the producers and their expert panel.

Ikechi’s initial red flag was his prior application to Married at First Sight. Originally applying for season 10 while in Houston, he later relocated to Chicago, prompting a second application. Throughout the season, Ikechi has made numerous disparaging remarks toward Emem. He has labeled her “aggressive”on various occasions and accused her of unwanted advances. Most shockingly, during their one-month anniversary, he insulted Emem by calling her an “a*****e”after she read their vows.
His behavior culminated at a group dinner, where Emem criticized him for being dishonest and questioned his motives for entering the marriage. She stated:
“I think he was hoping he had someone who was less educated who he could pull the wool over. So he said, ‘I’m gonna tear her down in any way possible.’
Ikechi’s tactics seem aimed at distorting perceptions of Emem while concealing his own negative traits. His attempts to project a superior image of himself contradict the troubling aspects of his behavior.

Apart from his ongoing assault on Emem’s character with the “aggressive”label, Ikechi’s behavior has been combative. On one occasion, he arrived late to a group dinner, seemingly motivated by the desire to belittle Emem. When she attempted to regroup and return, he prioritized speaking with a producer over supporting his wife.
“The moment I said I don’t want to have sex with you, everything changed. Like she shut down. I don’t know her enough to say hey let’s have sex. From day one she’s been jumping on me.”
Ikechi’s continuous negative rhetoric towards Emem not only impacts their relationship but also tarnishes his reputation among the cast and audience alike. He appears unwilling to engage in the marriage constructively, solidifying the notion that he was a poor casting choice.
Casting Concerns: How Did Ikechi Get Approved?
Deceptive Appearance to Experts
It’s apparent that Ikechi managed to deceive the casting experts. By applying previously, he positioned himself as a man eager for marriage, appealing to their emotional sensibilities. A deeper evaluation of his relationship history would have revealed a pattern of instability—after ending a serious relationship in his twenties, he has yet to sustain another beyond eight months.
The experts likely regret their decision to cast Ikechi in light of his current behavior and how detrimental it has been to Emem.
