In your adventure through Brothership, you’ve faced epic challenges across the oceans, reconnecting the enchanting islands of Concordia. With four Great Lighthouses successfully activated and a perilous dungeon within Bowser’s Castle behind you, it’s time to confront Zokket and the nefarious Extension Corps.
However, just as you ascend the formidable flying Fortress Zokket, an unexpected twist unfolds: Bowser Jr. has been kidnapped by the Extension Corps! In a dramatic turn of events, the ever-volatile Koopa King bursts onto the scene to rescue his son, only to be unexpectedly targeted by the Glohmatic Quad-Ray.
Before you can face Zokket, note that you will first need to overcome Glohm Bowser in a critical boss battle.
Preparing for the Confrontation
As you approach the end of Fortress Zokket, you will encounter the traditional ominous setup—a save block and a recovery block right before the boss fight. Utilize this opportunity to review your items and equip pertinent Battle Plugs.
Leveling up is paramount for this battle. The Adventure Log suggests reaching at least level 35 before proceeding, a sensible guideline given the difficulties lying ahead.
Players who strive for completion in side quests will find it easy to reach this level, enhancing their capabilities throughout the Main Story.
Addressing the Glohm Status Effect
Glohm Bowser introduces a significant challenge with the game’s new Glohm status effect. If either brother succumbs to Glohm, you lose the ability to use Bros. Attacks and Luigi Logic. Furthermore, typical attacks weaken without support from your partner.
To counteract the power of Glohm, equip effective Battle Plugs:
Battle Plug | Description |
---|---|
Auto Ampberry | Automatically uses an Ampberry at the beginning of your turn to dispel the Glohm status from either brother. |
Boomerang Items | Returns an item to your inventory after use, ensuring you’re never caught empty-handed. |
Auto Herb | Uses a Refreshing Herb at the start of your turn with a 50% chance to eliminate Glohm. |
Entering the battle with Glohm Bowser armed with anti-Glohm plugs minimizes the need to waste turns on healing items. The Auto Item series activates even if you’ve been affected by Glohm.
Since Ampberries can’t be purchased, make sure to speak with Dr. Vulko on Shipshape Island to restock. Utilizing the Boomerang Items plug will help maintain a steady supply of essentials!
Phase One of the Battle
In this initial phase, Glohm Bowser employs a mix of new maneuvers along with some he showcased during your earlier encounter on Wayaway Island. Thankfully, he won’t have a legion of minions at his back this time!
As the brainwashed Koopa King floats ominously in the air, you’ll need to avoid Hammer attacks and Bros. Attacks, which are ineffective against airborne foes. After inflicting damage, observe as Glohm Bowser creates a purple Glohm patch beneath him.
This Glohm area expands over time; if it reaches Mario or Luigi, they’ll endure damage each turn and run the risk of becoming Glohmed. Clearly, this is a situation to avoid at all costs.
To contain the spread of Glohm, employ Jump attacks continuously to stun Glohm Bowser, disrupting his airborne advantage. This action nullifies the Glohm patch and makes the boss susceptible to Luigi Logic.
Activating Luigi Logic
The Luigi Logic minigame kicks off once an airship filled with Shy Guys appears. This vessel will bombard you with cannonballs, but utilizing Luigi Logic allows you to take control.
However, if Glohm Bowser remains unstunned, he can drag the airship down, eliminating your opportunity to deal damage through this minigame. Ensure that he is grounded first!
Once airborne, brace yourself for a shooter-style mini-game where even a single hit can cause the airship to crash, so evade Glohm Bowser’s projectiles while launching your cannon fire.
Unlike other boss encounters, this minigame does not conclude with a dazed Glohm Bowser. After causing sufficient damage, you’ll automatically transition to Phase Two as Glohm Bowser lands.
Phase Two of the Confrontation
As the battle evolves into Phase Two, the airship and Luigi Logic fade from play. It’s now strictly Mario and Luigi facing off against the brainwashed turtle in true classic style.
As Glohm Bowser’s health wanes, he retaliates with more punishing attacks that come in rapid succession. While Brothership’s dodge and counter mechanics aren’t on par with soulslike games, remain vigilant until it’s your turn again.
To maximize damage output, leverage Bros. Attacks; techniques like Mario’s Hatch Me If You Can and Luigi’s Jump Helmet are particularly effective against this flying adversary. While Bomb Derby and Yoo Hoo Cannon pack even more punch, proficiency in executing Excellent attacks is essential for optimal damage.
Should any Bros. Attack present a challenge, don’t hesitate to utilize the Auto EXCELLENT plug! Coupled with Bros. Boost, it’s an excellent method for dealing consistent damage, and it even contributes to the Bros. Attack challenge goals.
During Luigi’s slower turn, typically, you should switch back to defensive Battle Plugs before Glohm Bowser ramps up his assault. Plugs like Notdroppin and Auto 1-Up can be lifesavers during the final stages of the battle.
Keep your momentum steady, and eventually, you will defeat Bowser, breaking the brainwashing spell upon him. Even under the influence of such dark magic, the Koopa King cannot overcome the indomitable Mario!
