The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has unveiled an exciting new expansion titled Journey Together, marking the long-awaited return of Trainer’s Pokémon cards. As 2025 approaches, fans can anticipate a significant resurgence in the Pokémon TCG’s evolution, beginning with the special set Prismatic Evolutions. This initial release will introduce a variety of Special Illustration Rare and Pokémon ex cards, paving the way for subsequent sets centered on Trainer’s Pokémon—an iconic type of card that has been absent from the game for several years.
Announced today, Journey Together aims to formally reintroduce Trainer’s Pokémon cards to a global audience. This set will feature four exclusive Trainer’s Pokémon ex cards: N’s Zoroark ex, Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex, and Hop’s Zacian ex. Highlighting Trainer and Pokémon Partnerships
The Pokémon TCG confirmed the inclusion of four dedicated Trainer’s Pokémon ex cards in this new set: N, Iono, Lillie, and Hop. They are prominently featured in promotional materials and booster pack artwork. However, it remains uncertain if additional trainers will be showcased in later expansions. The set will also comprise a diverse selection of card types, including:
- Four Trainer’s Pokémon ex
- 16 Pokémon ex
- 11 illustration rare Pokémon
- Six special illustration rare Pokémon
- Three hyper rare gold etched cards
Interestingly, the recent press release regarding Journey Together omits mention of several crucial card types that were staples of previous sets, such as Tera Pokémon ex cards, Stellar Tera Pokémon ex cards, and ACE SPEC cards. Given their prominence in older Scarlet & Violet sets, it’s unknown whether these types will vanish entirely or were simply excluded from the announcement. While existing cards in these categories remain valid for play, it raises questions about the future production of similar new cards.
